Mamma’s fruit loaf

Ok, I don’t actually call her Mamma, just Mum x But Mamma sounds so much better, don’t you think? heehee x

When I first started baking this time last year my Mum wrote down here recipe for Fruit loaf and it’s been pinned to my notice board ever since waiting patiently for me to get round to trying it out!! I’m not sure it is quite up to her standards yet, but I think I’ve done not bad for a first attempt and will play around and perfect it to my own tastes in the years to come x

Fruit loaf

Ingredients:

  • ½llb Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 2 cups Sultanas
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon Bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups self raising flour

Fruit loaf

Method:

  1. Line a loaf tin with backing parchment.
  2. In a medium heavy pan add the butter, sugar, sultanas, water and bicarbonate of soda on a medium heat until the sugar has dissolved and the butter has melted, then turn up the temperature to full and bring to the boil, then continue boiling for 10 minutes. Set aside to cool for a couple of hours.
  3. Beat the eggs and them to the mixture, add the flour and mix well.
  4. Transfer mixture to the loaf tin and place in the oven at 170°C for 1½ hours.

I’m a little teapot (cup really) short and stout!!

I thought it was about time I did a post about my ever growing collection of Teasets!! x I talk about them often enough and they do guest appearances in other posts, but this is a chance for them to shine on their own! I have chosen to highlight 6 of my favourite sets for your amusement today, and here they are in all their prettiness x

Correspondence Sunday – Snail mail style :o)

Today was a perfect day to catch up on some correspondence. I’ve been building up my collection of cards over the last couple of months and I’ve also picked up a few more from the pretty shops around my flat whilst out exploring the area this week!

So with the sun shining and no plans to meet up with any of my friends today I thought I would take the opportunity to write to those that are further away and don’t get the chance to see as often as I’d like xx

It’s so nice to have so many friends scattered around this world and I want to make sure they all know how much they mean to me!! I’ve not got the best hand writing, but I’m hoping with a bit of practise it will improve. And I’m not the fastest writer in the world either, which is why I have decide to stick to postcards and greetings cards for the moment. I still haven’t managed to finished all that I had wanted to today, so I think I’ll have to carry a few in my handbag just so I have them to hand if I stop at a bench along the canal side or one of the little cafés near my flat through the week!!

There is something so lovely and personal about receiving post and in sending some too xx

So if you would like to receive post from me, or equally, if you would like to add me to your mailing list then please contact me at  lucycameron74@hotmail.co.uk and leave me your postal address/ or ask for mine x

Do you enjoy receiving pretty post as much as I do?

Or do you prefer to be the sender?

Let me know xx

xx

First Guests! An excuse for a Tea party!! Yeah!!! x

I had my first visitors since unpacking over the weekend and thought it was only proper that I offer some lovely edibles to mark the occasion xx

I supplied these extraordinary Macaroons, some ginger biscuits, a little rocky road and pecan maple bake xx

It also gave me the opportunity to use one of my many tea sets and my favourite cakestand x

And………It’s my great pleasure to introduce you to Delia the duck, whom will hence forth be known as Ducky!! A lovely house warming gift which now proudly holds my kitchen door open xx

Cupcakes!!!

Another week another challenge xx

And if you haven’t already managed to work it out, this week is cupcake week………Ta dah!!

I thought I would start simple and develop it over time!! So I went for a straight forward Vanilla cupcake, which was really easy to make in just a few minutes, with a plain Vanilla Butter icing to decorate!! And the wafer roll just add a bit of fun, I think x

Although they went down well with my friends, I wasn’t overly impressed with this recipe!! They were quite dense and heavy in my opinion, so I think I will have to try a different recipe next time!!

I think they still looked pretty good so I took a few photos to show you all – as per usual…..haha x

Hopefully you will understand why I’m not going to share the recipe this time and why I want to wait until I’ve found a better recipe to share!!

Can you tell it’s my first attempt at piping?

I got a new syringe style piping bag thingy for Christmas that came in handy for playing around with icing.  I need to learn how to fill it better as I’m sure I wasn’t suppose to create quite so much mess!!

It also gives me the opportunity to introduce you to the new sets of china I found this week in the charity shops. My favourite two finds so far and they really compliment each other so well, it almost seems like a shame to drill holes in them!! Maybe I’ll just keep these for myself!!! ;p

They looked pretty cute on my cake stand too!! ♥

My first Tea party! ♥

On Tuesday I got the chance to host my first ever Tea party, it was so much fun to organise! I spent the evening before baking Hazelnut Chocolate Macaroons and these delicious Scones. It gave me an excuse to use my new cake stand that I made on Monday and some of the pretty crockery that I have been collecting lately! This all made me very happy x

I only realised shortly before my guests arrived that there was a couple of things that I don’t actually own any more that were pretty crucial for an afternoon tea!! Like a TEAPOT!!! How could I forget that?

And a pretty tablecloth would have been nice too, but wasn’t essential for the over all effect!

I’ll need to keep an eye out when I am in the Charity shops trying to find tea services to see if there are any nice teapots there too! And I’ll have fun searching I’m sure xxx

So, who’s up for attending my next Tea party? x

Where will it all go?

Well I’m home from my sisters house and I thought I would share with you all (or most!!) of the gifts I received from family and friends this year for Christmas!

I was and still am so overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone this year, I received so many thoughtful and heartfelt gifts x

So many of the gifts are (or will be) so inspiring for me as I start to get my life in order in the coming months!!

Look at it all, so much more than I deserve, but thanks everyone xxx I must note there are a couple of items missing from the collection, a Keyboard that I couldn’t fit in my car (that will join me into the new year when my sister and nephew come to visit) and Poppy (a very personal and touching gift from my sister) who may or may not appear in a future blog, I’ve yet to decide x

There was definitely a very strong girly and nesting theme running through my gifts this year as you will no doubt notice x It was really nice on Christmas morning to be so excited when opening all my parcels to find that inside were things that suit my personality finally! Not that I am ungrateful for gifts on previous years, but you know what I mean!! x

There was a surprising amount of baking accoutrements amongst my gift’s which will come in very handy now that I need to become accomplished at baking over the next few months!! I’ll explain more about that in a future blog x And all the baking practice may come in handy with making new friends too hopefully x heehee x

There was also a nice pink bookmark to use in the sales to buy things I ♥!! Looking forward to spending it already!!!

This lovely set of 4 adorable spotty espresso cups and saucers were a gift from my youngest nephew! And I have already found the perfect place to put them x

And it wouldn’t be Christmas without something knitted!!!!! In my stocking from Santa, there was this little Christmas pudding in all its fluffiness, which made me smile x

Now I just have to figure out where I am going to fit all of these lovely gifts in my new flat!! I think another bit of reorganising  is in order!!

What did you all get?

Just because I am nosey!!

Thanks again everyone for the lovely gifts xx I love you all x
