An insight into a small insight

Welcome to my little retreat xxx

Through this blog I hope to give you a glimpse in to my thoughts and even my soul.

By showing you some of the things in life that I have seen, heard, touched, experienced or even tasted!

So hopefully through this you will get A SMALL INSIGHT in to my world.

Christmas night out_0069_edited-1

Oh I’m Lucy by the way………Hi x Just a single girl with a love of photography and all things pretty. I have developed a serious love for baking cakes and cooking Chinese/Japanese food.

I like to think I am quite creative and I’m hoping this could be an outlet for me to channel some of it in a more positive way.

Let me know what you think.

© All of the images (and text) here are, of course, mine, unless otherwise stated. If you want to use my photos in your blog or tumblr, that’s great – please just link them back to me 🙂 Any other use must be approved by me in writing first.

  2. Hello Lucy, like what you’ve done on wordpress, I’m very new to it and not very savy …could i ask please; your blog is it ‘a page’ or lots of ‘posts’ …Im trying to sus’ out what the difference is visually …I’m dyslexic with instructions/sequencing so don’t get ‘how to’ easily …Many thanks!

    • Thanks for your blog love xx My recipe page is a page I have made of links to only recipes I’ve done which I have to manually do after each recipe I’ve posted to make it easier them easier to find xx, The page entitled “All of my insights” is the traditional wordpress view of all blogs in the order they were posted, newest first x I hope that helps xx

  3. I wanted to stop by and thank you for liking one of my blogs (albeit, it was for the epic bread baking failure one haha).

Anyway, I just read your About page…and it seems so calming. I think I will poke around your blog…*smiles*

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog – I look forward to trying out some of your recipes – the nougat looks very appealing.

  5. Love what I’m reading here– just popped over after you liked one of my posts. You’re one of two UK blogs I’m following now (the other is Homemade with Mess)– I’m intrigued by the names of baked goods I’ve never seen here in the US, like Victoria Sponge or Battenberg Cake and look them up in wikipedia. (Turkish Delight everyone here knows from the Narnia books). Can’t wait to try some of your recipes!

  6. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and giving it a like :-). It’s an understatement to say your blog is beautiful, both the recipes and photos. So many good things to try . . . .

  7. Hi Lucy! Thanks for liking my post!

  10. I like your little world, not only you’re good at baking but also photographing. I can learn a lot from you. And thanks for stopping at my blog although I did not write in English. I’m just on my way to create my corner. And I love baking too 🙂

    • Thanks for popping by my blog too, that’s the lovely thing about the internet, language is no longer a barrier!! All sites can be translated in seconds 🙂 x I hope your little corner of the world blossoms and becomes exactly what you want it to be, beautiful work so far x 🙂

  11. Lovely photos! You seem to have posted recipes for all my favourite Scottish cafe cake favourites – this could be dangerous for my waistline!

  12. Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I just wanted to say how much I love yours. I’m hoping to pick up some photography staging tips because I suck by comparison. Not to mention how much I’m jealous of the tea sets. Sighs…

    • Thanks for coming and having a look at my blog in return!! :o) It makes me happy x
I’m just learning photography as I go along, there are lot’s tutorials online to learn new techniques x
I’m planning a post about all the new tea sets I seem to have acquired lately (15 sets now) , so watch this space……. x

  13. Wow Lucy! Your photos really make me wish I had stumbled upon your blog years ago before I cut sugar out of my diet!

Beautiful – absolutely beautiful design and great photography skills!

If I use anything from your site I will certainly let others know of your awesomeness!

  14. First off, thank you for visiting my blog NoWheatNoWay!

Looking through your recipes I may need to try and adapt some of them to my wheat free ness, they look nom! The photos are beautiful too! I have a bit of a love of photography myself and Japanese food!

    • Thanks Lee, I really want to have a Japanese party, but don’t know enough other that appreciate it!! I’ll have to keep looking for new friends with an interest x ;p
Let me know how you get on if you do adapt any of my recipes x

  15. Hi Lucy, your blog is beautiful! I am very new to all this and have not really got my head round it all but pleased to be started in 2013. Your images and style are just how I envisage mine to be so I will use you as inspiration! Also your baking looks lovely and very tasty! I will have a scour through your recipes! Best wishes for 2013 and I hope it is a year of fun, love and happiness for you. X

    • Thanks for taking the time to stop by, you have a very pretty blog too, it’s taking shape nicely xx 🙂
It’s always nice to come across other Edinburgh bakers/bloggers, we should stay in touch xx
And I’m sure 2013 is going to be great, I’m finally starting to make friends in Edinburgh which helps…..haha x ;p

  16. Hi Lucy, thanks for taking the time to ‘like’ my post on macarons. Think your blog is really beautiful. I’m very new to this blogging thing so still not sure about the theme I am using and getting lots of ideas from looking at lovely one like yours. I did read through you pistachio macaron post and wondered if you had tried pistachio paste instead of ground fresh. I can thoroughly recommend it. It’s produced by French company Sevarome.

    • I hadn’t heard of pistachio paste before this, I will certainly have to look into it xx Thanks for the company name xx
I have gone through several different blog themes since i started and probably will go through many more yet as my blog evolves xx Don’t get bogged down with appearances and keep up with the great content that you have and you find your look xx 🙂

      • i really appreciate your kind comments. when i am in guernsey i source the paste from UK supplier who buys it in from france. it is expensive but keeps well and you only need a little as it is so concentrated. sadly i cant get it when i am in US and the alternatives have been gross! ;(

    • Hi ohiocook, Although I am flattered that you come and leave comments on my blog, this is now the 5th almost identical comment that you have left!! If you wish to leave more, I would love to hear what you think of my blog and which posts have intrigued you in particular!! Thanks xx

  17. Thanks for visiting and liking my blog – Tiramisu Cake.Really appreciate it!Really enjoyed looking through some of your recipes.Looks very delicious and yummy!Definitely will try many of your recipes and let you know how they came out.

    • Thank you for nominating me for an award xx Unfortunately, I don’t match the criteria as I have more than 200 followers now, but I am still honoured that you considered me 🙂 x
Hope you manage to pop back again sometime, as I will be keeping an eye on yours 🙂 x

  18. Hi, thanks so much for liking my Easter cake blog…im new to all this so its lovely that people when people like my posts…really encouraging!!! Love your blog by the way…its sooo pretty!!!

  19. Thanks so much for liking my avocado cookie post! Your food photography is so inspiring and I hope to enhance my skills following your excellent example!

  20. I nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award but see from earlier comments that you probably have too many followers for it! (I’m not actually sure what the cutoff is.) But I do want to say your blog is fantastic.

    • Thanks so much, I am always honoured to be nominated or even considered for such accolades!! But usually the cut-off for such awards are 200 followers and I am fortunate enough to have 1000+ now, so it would be wrong of me to accept them x 😦

  21. I have been around your blog for the last hour and is a wonderful piece of art.
I would like to invite you to view my blog, Fun with Food.

We would appreciate your readership. Mean time I look forward to more from A Small Insight.

By the way I feel your insights are much bigger. 🙂

    Randall
